Greetings! DO WE EVER NEED SOME RAIN!!! Just had to get that out there.... Please pray for the entire southeastern United State. We are in a serious drought and that is never a good thing for the farmers and ranchers and also it is contributing to some dangerous wild fires. The farms are continuing on with lots of irrigation. Harvest Moon's cucumber crop has come to an end as of this week and on to cleaning out the green houses and getting ready for the next planting. The greens are coming in beautifully from McClellan Organics and Artzi Farms. Also, we have some pretty yellow squash coming up from Florida. This week your CSA Box will contain: cucumbers, yellow squash, honeycrisp apples, carrots, mushrooms, romaine lettuce, red beets, sweet potatoes, and cranberries. We are planning on having the CSA the week of Thanksgiving with a change of delivery day to Wed FOR EVERYONE. That will include Bainbridge which is usually on Friday. ALL DELIVERY OF CSA BOXES ON THE WEEK OF THANKSGIVING WILL BE ON WEDNESDAY NOV 23rd. SAME TIME PERIODS. If you would like to skip that week for any reason please let me know.
Reminder: We are celebrating Fall Harvest with an OPEN HOUSE at Harvest Moon Market, Thursday Nov, 17th from 6-8pm. Please come and sample some of the goodies we have to offer here in the market, meet your farmers, visit with our local vendors and beekeepers, have questions about the CSA ? we will be here to answer them, want to talk to a rancher about grassfed beef? Grady Ranch will be here! Need some fresh ideas for the holidays? we have them, gift ideas? yes, we have those too! Stop by or stay the whole time, all are welcome!
You're Invited! Harvest Moon Market is having a FALL HARVEST OPEN HOUSE at Harvest Moon Market Thursday Nov. 17th from 6-8 pm. Another delicious week ahead! In our CSA Boxes this week will be red kale and collards from McClellan Organics, Harvest Moon cucumbers, celery, granny smith apples, cantaloupe, romaine lettuce, bi-color corn, potatoes, and broccolini!
Broccolini??? While it might look like a baby broccoli it is not. It is a lanky hybrid vegetable first created in 1993. It is a cross between broccoli and Chinese broccoli, it has small florets, long stalks, and a few small leaves-all of which are edible. Compared to the bitter flavor of regular broccoli, Broccolini is more mild, with a sweet, earthy taste. While it can be eaten raw, Broccolini is best when cooked. It can be sauteed, steamed, roasted, and grilled. You know how we like to change things up in our boxes! Enjoy!
