Greetings! I have enjoyed these past few Saturdays at Bainbridge Farmers Market in their new location. I love meeting and greeting, new and old friends. It is important to share our passion for giving you fresher locally grown produce that beats your grocery store in taste AND price. If you have not been, you should put it on your list of things to do on the weekend! Harvest Moon will be skipping this week but you may look for us the next time.
The farms are coming along nicely and the weather is cooperating.... afraid to write this for fear I will jinx it! lol..... Spring time is a very busy time with planting and moving livestock and such....so please be careful while driving and slow down when approaching farm equipment. We love our farmers and you, and we want to protect you all!
I thank you! CSA members for being so helpful by remembering to bring your boxes back to reuse. It helps us and you to keep the prices down. Proud to say we have been at this for 3 years with NO price increase! We are looking for long term relationships :) and enjoy helping to make eating healthier an easier choice.
This week your CSA box will contain: Green Snap Beans, Red Leaf Lettuce, Red Cherry Tomatoes and sweet onions with top, from Florida, Sweet Potatoes from North Carolina, Red Delicious Apples from Washington, Naval Oranges from California, Harvest Moon Cucumbers, and from McClellan Organics, Yellow Squash, Zucchini and Green Cabbage. AND AS ALWAYS CERTIFIED ORGANIC

RECIPE OF THE WEEK!
Healthy & Cheesy Green Beans & Cauliflower Recipe
Ingredients 1 lb green beans 1 head or 1.5 lbs cauliflower 3/4 cup skim milk 2 cups low fat mozzarella cheese, shredded 2 tbsp whole wheat flour 2 tsp coconut oil 1 onion, finely chopped 810 cloves garlic, crushed 2 tsp paprika Salt and pepper to taste (I added 1/5 of tsp) Directions 1. Cut cauliflower into small floret size pieces. 2. Trim and cut green beans into 1.52 inch size pieces. 3. Bring medium pot with water to boil. Add a pinch of salt, green beans and cauliflower and boil for 35 minutes or until vegetables are al dente. You want them to be crunchy and not mushy. Drain and set aside. 4. Heat coconut oil in a medium size pot. Add garlic and onion. Sautee until golden brown. 5. Add milk, flour and paprika and cook for 1 minute mixing with a whisk. Add cheese and mix again. 4/12/2016 2/2 6. Cover and cook on low for 2 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. The cheese will melt and the sauce will be ready. 7. Add vegetables and gently mix to combine. Cover, remove from heat and let the ingredients merry together for a couple minutes before serving. 8. Serve warm to enjoy the cheesiness of this dish. I liked it cold too but it wasn't cheesy of course. http://ifoodreal.com/healthycheesygreenbeanscauliflowerrecipe/ The recipe and images are property and copyright of iFOODreal.com
Greetings! I could of used last week's news letter this week too. Rain, rain go away! We got over 4 inches of rainfall on the farms. But there is always hope...sun is shining great today and we are working on growing your crops. The cucumbers here at Harvest Moon are on their second full week of picking and they taste as good as they look. Now for the fields to dry out so we may plant some okra! McClellan Organics stay busy! They are hard at work still harvesting those awesome greens and starting on their cucumbers as well. You may look for green cabbage and the summer squashes to start in the next week or so!
Katie and Bryan work constantly at improving their farm production and have completed the construction of a brand new produce cooler and shipping building located on the farm that will make it easier on them and convenient for the transportation of all the vegetables from their farm to grocery stores throughout the USA and Canada. Did you know they sell to Krogers, Fresh Market, New Leaf, Albertson's, Winn Dixie to name just a few? Yes, so you have probably bought veggies from them at these stores but do you realize that when you join our CSA you are receiving the very same veggies but days and miles sooner!! cheaper and fresher!!
I also wanted you to know that our CSA is the only one around that offers ALL the produce in our boxes CERTIFIED ORGANIC (not just grown organically) we have to prove by yearly inspections that what we grow is organic, from the non-gmo seeds, to all certified organic products used on the plants as they grow, that the fields are certified that they grow in,and we also carry Food Safety Certificates that certify we follow all regulations for handling your food and crops safely. Do you think the others can say that?? Do you think that is important to you? We do and that's why we strive to uphold these important standards.
This week your box will contain these goodies: green beans and celery hearts from Florida, romaine lettuce and lemons from Ca., North Carolina sweet potatoes, naval oranges from California, Chiquita bananas from Equador, Washington apples, Harvest moon cucumbers and greens from McClellan Organics. ALL GOOD<ALL ORGANIC

Heat a large heavy skillet over medium heat. Add the oil and the butter. Add the garlic and red pepper flakes and saute until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the beans and continue to saute until coated in the butter and heated through, about 5 minutes. Add lemon zest and season with salt and pepper.
