Greetings! Spring has officially arrived and our cucumber harvest is underway. Close to 200 boxes of cukes have been picked so far and are going out to fill orders. We also have a few in store and there are many more on the way! Artzi Farms of Thomasville is still harvesting beautiful beets, delicious sweet onions, and lovely Romaine lettuce, all of which you'll find in this week's CSA boxes. Ames Farm is happy to report that, despite some plants freezing, their cauliflower have recovered nicely from the last frost. Calamint Farms should have some adorable little radishes for your boxes next week. This week, in addition to Artzi's veggies, you'll find McClellan kale, potatoes, Florida citrus, and more perfect Bosc pears in your CSA boxes.

Tips to help your lettuce last longer
Since lettuce can be one of the pickiest veggies to keep happy in your refrigerator, we thought we'd share a few tips to help your leafy greens last longer. No one wants to eat a sad, wilted salad! Try these tips with this week's Romaine, and let us know how they work for you.
1. Clean your greens in a mixture of 10 parts water to 1 part white vinegar. Remove any bad leaves.
2. Keep greens whole until ready to use (don't cut until ready to serve. When ready, cut with plastic knife.)
3. Dry leaves as much as possible. Use a salad spinner if you have one, or lay out in a single layer on towels tor dry.
4. Store leafy greens in a sealed container lined with a layer of paper towels.
5. Revive wilted lettuce with an ice water bath. Soak for 5 - 20 minutes in cold water with a couple handfuls of ice. Dry and store as mentioned above.

If you'd like more details on lettuce revival or other helpful hints, visit our Kitchen Tips board on Pinterest.
Don't forget our Spring Open House is next week to celebrate our cucumber harvest and the arrival of Spring. Swing by between 6 and 7:30 to sample our wares and mingle with our farmers. This is your chance to shake the hands that feed you and for us to get to know you better.  We hope to see you there!
Until next week - stay healthy, shop local, and eat real food!

Greetings! We hope you all stayed nice and warm through the cold weather this week. Some of our farmers will have to put in some extra work to recover from the frost. Cauliflower caught some frost, but may still make it. McClellan Organics lost some peppers and will have to replant more squash. Luckily, our cucumbers stayed safe and warm in our greenhouses, and we start picking them tomorrow!

This week we'd like to introduce you to our new friends at Strawberry Moon - a small, Certified Naturally Grown farm located in Monticello, Florida. You'll find their Romaine lettuce in our CSA boxes and in-store this week. This week's CSA shares also contain:  onions from our friends at Artzi Organics in Thomasville; Florida-grown organic green beans, cabbage, celery, and grapefruit; potatoes and yams; and beautiful Bosc pears and blood oranges.

In store, we all the above listed CSA items, plus fresh McClellan Organics collards and kale, Artzi beets, and a nice selection of fresh, organic fruit. We've restocked on kombucha, aloe drinks, drinkable yogurts, eggs, Piggy's Gentle Goats Milk products, and local honey. If there is an item you've been having a hard time finding and can't live without, just let us know! We're always happy to go the extra mile to help our customers.

At Harvest Moon Market we're looking forward in a week or so to our first cucumber harvest of the year. In store, we've restocked on fresh Sparkman's dairy and goodies from Pita Queen. We're doing our best to stay stocked in local honey for allergy season, but it's a popular item so grab some while you can!
Coming up, we're looking forward to hosting a Seed Exchange on Saturday, April 1st, and make sure to SAVE THE DATE for our Spring Open House on Thursday, March 30 at 6 PM. Our open house events are a great opportunity for you to meet our farmers, swap recipe ideas, and sample some of our favorite grocery items. Mark your calendars and plan on swinging by, we love to interact with our customers face-to-face.
Until next week - stay healthy, shop local, and eat real food!

Greetings! We hope you're enjoying this bout of cooler weather before Spring officially arrives, we sure are. All the sunshine is helping move our cucumbers along and we're expecting our first harvest of the season in a couple weeks.

This week's CSA share contains eggplant, grape tomatoes, romaine lettuce, citrus, collards, and kale.
In store, we've restocked on hummus and pita from Pita Queen and more of those delicious Florida tomatoes we had last week. So far we've tried them as fried green tomatoes, a hearty pasta sauce, on sandwiches, and sliced with salt, pepper, and white balsamic vinegar.

As the pollen count rises, we're seeing more folks in the store looking for local honey. We're proud of our wide honey selection, from Sourgrass to Saw Palmetto, and carry local honeys from Cairo and Whigham.  Try some in your tea or coffee to get your daily dose of allergy relief. One of our CSA members today mentioned she drizzles honey over some of her salads. Don't forget CSA members always get a discount in store, just mention you're a member when you check out.
Until next week - stay healthy, shop local, and eat real food!
